IELTS fee in other countries
IELTS fees are set locally, so they vary from country to country. To find the price where you live, open the British Council or IDP IELTS website for your country and choose a test centre: the fee appears before you pay. Make sure you are looking at the right test, because IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills usually cost more or less than the standard test.
Other charges to know about
- Changing your date: moving your test usually costs a fee, and late changes may not be allowed at all.
- Cancelling: you normally get part of the fee back if you cancel early, and nothing if you cancel very late.
- Enquiry on Results: asking for a remark costs a significant fee. It is refunded if your score goes up.
- Extra Test Report Forms: a few are free; sending results to more organisations costs extra.
- Travel: if there is no test centre in your city, include travel and possibly an overnight stay.
5 ways to save money on IELTS
- Only book when you're ready. Take a full practice test first. If you are well below your target, a few more weeks of preparation is cheaper than a second test.
- Book the right test the first time. Academic, General Training and UKVI are different tests. Check what your university or visa needs. Our guide to what IELTS is explains the differences.
- Pick your date carefully. Changing it later costs money, so choose a date you can keep.
- Consider One Skill Retake. If only one skill is below your target, retaking just that skill costs much less than the full test, as long as your university or visa accepts it.
- Use free practice. Our free IELTS tools, from band calculators to a writing checker, cost nothing.
How to pay the IELTS fee
You pay when you book online, usually by debit or credit card. In some countries there are other options, such as bank payment, but your place is only confirmed once the payment is received, so pay promptly. Keep your booking confirmation and bring the same ID you used to book on test day.
Make sure you're ready before you pay
Take a full practice test in the real computer-delivered format and see your band for every skill before you book.
